Dear Future Mitzvah Corps Participants and Parents of Current Mitzvah Corps Participants,
I have spent 2 full days and 1 half day with this group of teenagers and staff in Seattle. You would expect 32 teenagers to keep to themselves on their phones and in most situations, you would be correct. But here, you are very wrong. Yes, we do check our phones, but we use them to communicate and take pictures, and it’s not all the time. We enjoy talking to each other, and everyone I have met has been extremely friendly and willing to talk to me. When I got off the plane and started to meet people, the team leaders were extremely friendly, played games with us, and introduced us to other participants. In the past 2 days I have been here, I have learned everyone’s name and had a quality conversation with them. Our community has grown to be a fun group. It is amazing that everyone has been so friendly and open to meeting new people. This has been an experience that I am going to treasure forever, and even 2 days in, I know that I already have best friends all over the country. If you want to do Mitzvah Corps and can’t decide if you should do it or not, I am going to encourage you to do it. Spending 2 weeks with people who will be some of your closest friends is 100% worth it. Another reason to do Mitzvah Corps is to experience something outside of your comfort zone. It is scary at first, but once you realize that you can handle anything, the trip is really great…and we’re only two days in. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the our time together in Seattle has in store.
